Calibration runs $150 to $300 on top of the glass and adds 30 to 60 minutes to a windshield replacement that already takes 60 to 90. If your car has lane keeping, automatic braking or adaptive cruise, the camera behind the glass has to be reset. We quote both numbers together, before you drive up from Hunts Point.

The camera that runs lane keeping and forward collision warning is mounted to the windshield, usually in the black frit behind the mirror. Move the glass and you move the camera, even by a fraction, and a fraction at the sensor becomes a lane's width a hundred yards down the road. Calibrating walks that aim back to the angle the carmaker specified. Some cars calibrate statically against targets placed in the bay, others need a dynamic run at steady speed on well-marked road, and a few want both. Which one applies depends on the make, and we'll tell you when you call with the year and model.
The cost is $150 to $300 on top of the glass, and it appears on the quote during the first phone call rather than once the car is apart. That's the part drivers get burned on: a windshield price that quietly excludes the calibration the car can't be driven safely without. We'd rather you hear the whole figure while you're still deciding. Budget another 30 to 60 minutes in the bay beyond the replacement, and account for safe drive-away time before you head back down toward the Bruckner.

Dynamic calibration is the awkward one for cars based around the market. The procedure wants steady speed and clear lane markings for a stretch, and the roads nearest the loading docks are gravel-dusted, truck-heavy and worn past the paint. The Bruckner Expressway serves at the right hour and is hopeless during the loading rush. That's another argument for coming to us very early or very late, because at five in the morning the roads that make the procedure workable are genuinely clear. It's also why we won't promise a dynamic calibration on the market's own streets during a mobile visit. If your car needs targets set at fixed distances on a level floor, that's shop work regardless, and you'll know before the van is dispatched.
Same service, same price, other Bronx neighborhoods:
No. Resin repair never breaks the factory bond, so the camera doesn't move and there is nothing to reset. That's one reason filling a chip for $60 to $130 is worth doing early on a car with driver assistance. Once the glass has to come out, you're looking at the windshield price plus another $150 to $300 for the calibration on top of it.
Sometimes. Many dynamic calibrations can be completed on-site provided the car can then be driven on suitable roads, but static target calibration needs the shop floor, measured distances and a level surface, none of which exist on a loading block. Give us the year, make and model when you book and we'll know which one applies before anyone is sent out to you.
Look up at the mirror mount from inside the car. A housing sitting flush against the glass with a lens pointed forward usually means a camera. Lane departure alerts, forward collision warnings and adaptive cruise on the dash are the other tell. If you're unsure, give us the year, make and model over the phone and we'll check before quoting, so the figure you hear is the figure you pay.
Tell us the vehicle and the glass that's damaged — you'll see your price instantly, and we'll hold it for you.
